Happy Mother's Day to all those moms out there, and especially to my own dear Mom.
I don't think this is her favorite picture, but I love it. This is my mother and I around 1985 or '86. I love that she is helping me walk through the daffodils while I am getting excited about something outside the picture.
My mom has raised 4 quirky kids (with the help of my dad, of course). I am the oldest, and the only girl... so I like to think we have a special girls' only club of two.
In honor of my Mom, here is a list of some of the things she has taught me to love:
- used book stores
- period films and television series (The Sherlock Holmes series with Jeremy Brett is a favorite)
- children's books with cute illustrations
- short hair! (my hair was short in college, and I bet it will be again in the future)
- Jane Eyre
- fresh fruit
- drawing
- crochet, knitting, embroidery
- opera (But I resisted this for a very long time)
- NPR
- soup
So thanks Mom! Happy Mother's Day. In the words of my younger brother, "You rock!"
